Near Wild Heaven
I guess it all started here. Wow. That was a long time ago.
Three Christmases (F/K, and Welsh, my fave) 20K. Set after Good for the Soul. Jul 1999. Christmas reminiscences lead to a direct tie in to...
Near Wild Heaven (F/K, lots of m/m sex, angst, and way too many words), which is an attempt to depict in a realistic way the sorts of practicalities F and K would be forced to face in a relationship. In three sections: Section one (349K) is Losing My Religion. (Jul 1999) Section two (303K) is Sweetness Follows (May 1999). Section three (493K) is Near Wild Heaven (Jun 1999). All titles thanks to REM.
Here's the WebTV page with links to NWH split up into shorter sections under 200K. [Wow... does anyone but me remember WebTV?]
If you're interested in any of the lyrics in Near Wild Heaven, here are some, annotated. Yeah, I got no life. So why are you here?
Last of all, oh so last of all, is Try Not to Breathe, an entirely horrible alternate ending to Near Wild Heaven that had to be written. 58K. Didn't like doing it, don't much like rereading it, but for those of you who like such things as deaths of two, three if you count F's alter ego, major characters, have at it. Get some tissues. You've been warned so don't bother flaming me. Jun 1999. (PDF version)
. : Jun 1999
Fear Is Never Boring (23K). It's a Due South/Buffy crossover conversation between Ray Kowalski and Oz. Set right before Dr Longball on Due South and just after Cordy gets spiked on Buffy. PG language, little vamp-slaying, no sex... wow... are we sure it's me? Story title stolen from song title by the Raisins, the best Cincinnati group ever (Doc and the Pods are just pikers).
. : Jun 1999
Coming to Terms (50K). Fraser disappears, startlingly and completely. Vecchio hates Kowalski, and yeah, it's mutual, but they gotta do the work together stuff to figure it out. A standalone. For once I wrote one. And it's relatively short too. Go figure. Jun 1999. (PDF version)
. : Jul 1999
Air Guitar (17K). First published in the print zine Serge Protector. CAN you slash to the Boss? Ray and Fraser managed to make a believer out of me. Yeah, guess which one's playing air guitar? That's a stretch, huh.
. : Aug 1999
Twofer (8K). A combination of two challenges issued on Serge: a masturbation challenge and a which-episode-is-most-likely-to-result-in-hot-sex challenge. My first attempt at third person. Not as easy as first person. For me, anyway.
. : Oct 1999
Subatomic (17K). Ben and Ray attempt to watch The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai across the 8th Dimension and get sidetracked by quantum physics.
. : Oct 1999
Belong (F/K, of course, M/M, of course, and US - unadulterated sap. Sorry. I can do it when I have to.) 154K. Inspired by a question asked by the inimitable LaT on Serge, back in the day: how was the decision reached between Kowalski and Fraser to embark on the quest for the Hand of Franklin? It started out as three pages and ended up as... long. I Need Resolution. And, yeah, I know it's yet another REM song title. I can't help it. They're following me home. (PDF version)
. : Nov 1999
This Is Us (aka Screw the Iditarod) (58K). I finished the above sap and tried to go back to my usual practical self but this wouldn't leave me alone. It's set three months, more or less, after Belong. It's not really finished but there's a lot of it there.
. : 16 Nov 1999
Waiting to Fall (227K). Published in the print zine Serge Protector, now a webzine thanks to the multi-talented Meghan. (PDF version)
. : Jan 2000
Eye of a Hurricane (25K). Ray forces Fraser to ponder the end of the world.
. : Sep 2000
Bring Your Own, F/K. Another PWP.
Plain White Wrapper (15K). An erotic character study PWP of absolutely no redeeming social or literary value, inspired by a question asked by Denise Raymond on Asylum, undoubtedly in honour of the upcoming presidential election and the weighty issues of our times: boxers or briefs?
. : Oct 2000
Dry Clean Only (48K). Another erotic character study centred on the subject of underwear; sequel to the above. Still boxers. Not brief.
. : Nov 2000
Likewise (49K). Godawful schmoop, ten years post-CotW. (PDF version)
. : Jun 2001
Missing Pieces (AU, Smithbauer/Fraser, 25 pgs - PDF format). Hockey smut in the Strange Loops universe. Its very existence is a spoiler for Strange Loops. Oh well. Some people write fanfiction as a hobby. Some people write fanfiction backstory as a hobby. (HTML version)
. : Sep 2001
The Distance Between (Joe/Fraser) 84k, PDF format. Set after Victoria's Secret and before Hard Core Logo... nuff said. Too much, maybe. (HTML version)
. : Apr 2002
we couldn't get closer than this (44k). Alley sex. First printed in Body Heat, a Bast zine.
. : Jun 2006
You Might Think, written for a challenge on LJ's stop_drop_porn.
. : Jul 2011
Men on the Moon (53k). More post-CotW schmoop.
. : Dec 2011
Endgame (15k words). Some pre-CotW not-schmoop.
. : Jan 2012
Little Talks (28k words). A sort of prequel to Endgame; crossover with Gilmore Girls.
